Céilí September 24th!

Céilí time is finally here again!

Buffalo Comhaltas is sponsoring a Céilí (KAY-lee), an Irish social dance, on Saturday, September 24th, 2011 from 8:00 pm ‘til Midnight at the Milton J. Brounschidle Post, 3354 Delaware Ave. in Kenmore (midway between Kenmore Ave. and the Youngman Highway (I-290).

Price of admission is $10 for adults ($8 for Comhaltas members), $5 for students with ID, and accompanied children under the age of 16 are admitted for free.

During intermission a special Prize raffle will be held. Prizes include concert tickets to the 2011 Comhaltas Concert Tour of North America “Echoes of Erin” show on Sunday, October 16th . There will also be full selection of delicious and complimentary refreshments to enjoy.

Bring a friend and get ready to dance your cares away with us as we kick up our heels to the lively dance music of our own Buffalo Comhaltas musicians. A great Saturday evening, time well spent in great company!

Spring Ceili May 14

Celebrate Spring with a ceili on May 14th at the Buffalo Irish Center (245 Abbott Rd, Buffalo 14220)!

Kick up your heels to lively tunes provided by Comhaltas musicians and dance the night away!  Sets called by the wonderful Ellen Scahill.  Musicians interested in playing should contact Bridget English at martinwynne@comhaltas.net

Enjoy refreshments, a raffle, and a great time with old and new friends. Admission is $10/general, $8/CCE members, and $5/ students with ID.  Children under 16 accompanied by an adult are free.

Set-dancing classes taught by the Innisfree Dancers each Tuesday at 7:45pm at the Buffalo Irish Center.

Nietzsche’s 7th Anniversary Session

Join the Martin Wynne branch in celebrating 7 years of crankin’ the craic at Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen St. in Buffalo this Saturday, April 30th at 4:30.

Thanks to owner, Joe Rubino, house caller-bartender-supporter Bill Fenzel, and all the musicians and patrons who have contributed to this wonderful experience since 2004.   Over the past few years, a portion of the bar’s proceeds during the Saturday sessions are given to the Martin Wynne Branch Scholarship fund.   The scholarships allow students of all ages to further their studies in Irish cultural arts and continue the tradition. Here’s to many mighty years to come!

Bua Workshops & Concert April 10th

It’s a double-header weekend!  After dancing the night away with Inishowen on Saturday, come enjoy the lively tunes of Bua on Sunday! (dancing also encouraged!)

One of America’s premier traditional Irish music bands, Bua, will be performing live in concert Sunday April 10th, 2011 at 7:00pm at O’Connell & Company in residence at Gleasner Hall, Erie Community College North Campus.  Tickets prices are $15/$12 CCE members.  Be ready to tap your toes, kick up your heels and have a mighty good time!

St. Patrick’s Day at The Buffalo Irish Center

Join the Martin Wynne Branch as we kick-off St. Patrick’s Day festivities at the Buffalo Irish Center this Thursday, March 17!  All musicians and dancers are welcome to participate in a traditional session on the pub stage from 1pm-2:15.

The day begins with Mass in the Claddagh Room at 10:45, followed by a traditional Irish breakfast in the Emerald Room (only advance tickets available at Tara Gift Shoppe, $15).  Full list of activities and bands here:

Workshops November 6th

Learn from the Best!

Come and learn the traditional tunes of Ireland as taught by some of the very finest Irish musicians on Saturday, November 6th.  Workshops are held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 450 Abbott Rd., Buffalo 14220.
